Ep 11 : How Can Leadership Practice Regenerate the Natural World, Society, and the Economy?

How we choose to lead today is how we'll thrive tomorrow.

In this podcast episode, we explore the concept of regenerative leadership and its importance in today's rapidly changing world.

In a week when Unilever announced it was softening its aspirations towards accomplishing previously stated environmental goals, Asha and I believe that regenerative leadership and regeneration is a topic whose time is now.

Hein Schumacher, Unlilever’s current CEO confirmed plans to water down the company’s ethical pledges on a range of issues including plastic usage and pay.

We’re not setting out to “bash” Unilever as there are many others who have either loosened their grip by not following through on the initial steps that they took when they set out down the path to sustainability.

For example, Waitrose have taken many steps down the path to sustainability in recent years as this display of reusable shopping bags shows.

And yet, there is still work to do when we look at the plethora of single-use plastic in use in the fruit and vegetable aisle of the same store.

Given there are commercially available packaging alternatives already available in the marketplace (e.g. Notpla) the question is simply, ‘What is preventing the transition to packaging that is regenerative?’

We pull together key themes from previous episodes to help you get to grips with what regenerative leadership is and the compelling case for why aiming for sustainability doesn’t go far enough.

We discuss how martial arts principles can - somewhat surprisingly - inform leadership, the role of technology in supporting life, and the need for leaders to reconnect with nature and integrate mind, body, and spirit.

The episode also touches on the unique challenges senior women leaders face and the potential for future discussions with experts on technology's impact on leadership.

The conversation concludes with reflections on personal change and the interplay between our inner and outer worlds.
